My Journey to a Windy Week-end

If you are here in Toronto, you know what I am talking about. Was it a storm or what? I thought our house was going to be blown away this week-end (but nothing compared to what happened down South in the US).

With such wind blowing all over the place, no way I would go out. Good thing I did not have any appointment or meeting booked (a rare thing). What do you think I did? I watched as many TV shows as I could (in between my wife's favourite Nigerian movies). Thanks to Rogers' “On Demand”, I was able, not only to catch up with “The Mentalist”, “The Big Bang Theory” and many others, but I also discovered new shows I did not know about, like “The Finder” (a good one as a matter of fact). Do you think I will get some advertising fees for promoting these shows? I hope so.

One of the shows I liked the most this week-end was CBC's “Dragon's Den”. My friend Jim always talks about this show that I was curious to find out what it is about. I was not disappointed at all. The show is about a few investors who are judging business ideas from different people who come to pitch them for a potential partnership. It is a great concept and people sometimes come up with crazy ideas.

Towards the end of the show, a guy came up with a couple of good looking ladies wearing bikinis (I almost changed the channel. Just kidding). Do you know why they were waring bikinis? They wanted to show their abs. This guy wanted to show to the investors a product that he had created. According to him, once someone drinks his product, he/she will get abs in a very short time (hence the presence of the bikini ladies). I was like “I need this product” (my search for a six pack abs has taken me a lifetime and I am now losing hope).

The investors started to ask him questions in regards to his product and all the great stuff about return on investment. I was hoping he gets the money for the product to be on the market as soon as possible (that's how desperate I am). He ended up getting nothing. Do you know why? One of the investors asked him a simple but yet profound question to which he could not respond. The question was: “Can you show me your abs?” The guy couldn't do it simply because he hadn't any. Can you believe that? This guy was convincing investors to invest in a product that he hasn't successfully used himself (maybe getting abs was not his cup of tea).

It was so funny, but it was common sense at the same time. It got me thinking though. Do you know what I was asking myself? Guess!

I started thinking about my product. I teach people to achieve their goals (and with great results most of the time). But, am I achieving mine? That's the question. This year, I haven't achieved mine yet, but I am on my way. The good news is that it's all about the journey, not the destination. It's not always easy but I will hang in there. I heard someone say “don't wish it could be easy, wish you could be stronger”

Moral of the story? Do you want to have great abs, find someone to show you how. It won't be me.

Always a pleasure

My Journey with Fidèle

It has been quite a few busy weeks that involved a round trip to Ottawa on Saturday and preaching during a Sunday church service (yes, I was surprised too when I was asked to do it). All this time I was thinking about what I would be writing about on this week’s blog. I had a vague idea, but I did not know how to formulate it.
That was until I received a message on Facebook from a friend asking me to speak at an upcoming event in January. The topic of my presentation would be “The Moment that Defined Your Life”. The person who sent me the invitation did not know that I had been thinking about the same topic days prior to her message.
It all started when I was at a Toronto Raptors game. I have been reporting on the games for almost two months now, but I am still in awe every time I am at the arena. I can’t believe this is happening to me. I have been in rooms with childhood idols, biggest stars of the game, coaches, reporters, you name it. And every time I am saying “wow”. The other day,…

My Journey with a man of faith

Many years ago, I heard a businessman say that if you don’t have a dream, be around dreamers. Now, I am going to add to his statement and say that if you don’t have faith, be around people of faith.
I met this gentleman over sixteen years ago when I first came to Canada. After a few months, we became roommates. It was very fun evenings among friends hearing and telling funny jokes. We didn’t know what we would become later, but I knew this guy was going somewhere. He was a devoted Christian man, playing music in two different churches. He had a picture in his room with a huge crowd on it and I knew he was meant to impact people’s lives. Little did I know I would be, many years later among the people who would be impacted by his life.
We went our separate ways but kept in touch. He later became a Pastor (and I was not surprised at all by that), and I attended his church a few times.
In 2013, I was going through one of the toughest moments of my life and I needed help. I didn’t know wh…

My Journey to the Book

It has been quite overwhelming the last few days
I shared the link to my book to a few friends and the response has been a shock to me. The support has been unbelievable. All the comments are quite similar to this message that I received from a friend who has been more than a brother to me. Those of us who know him back in the day, we call him Kissa.
He wrote:
Hello bro I finally got a chance to watch the video. And I have 2 conflicting reactions: 1) what a powerful and incredible story man. It is amazing. I would love to rush put in on my facebook and twitter account for everybody to learn from you. How can I pay to order an autographed book? 2) I am also angry against you man. I was supposed to be your brother and friend. You could have asked me for a little help. Instead of living the fight alone. I hope one of the lessons learned in your journey would also be: Know your friends In any case, bravo and can't tell how much I respect you and I am proud of you Cheers
