My Journey to the Patio Power Event

My friend Jim has been promoting his annual event called Patio Power, it finally happened tonight. I was one of the speakers last year, I am glad he invited me again this year. I just came from there. Wow!

Things happen for a reason. I had planned to write my blog yesterday, and then the flood happened in Toronto. Wow! I have never seen anything like this. My Internet went down (I guess the server crushed) , so I could not publish anything. And here I am now, talking about the Patio Power.

I knew that I was going to be one of the speakers a long time ago, but Jim never gave me my topic. We had a conference call yesterday and he went: "Figure it out. You are the Journeyman". So, I had to figure out what I was going to speak about. To add to the pressure, Jim put me first. I was going to start the event.

I was given 8 minutes to speak, I was done in 5. To tell the truth, I was more interested by other speakers' presentations. I don't know how he does it, Jim knows how to find great speakers (other than myself of course).

Man, I was so inspired. I have never heard most of the speakers who came out tonight. They almost moved me to tears by their stories.

To tell the truth (not that I was lying before), sometimes I have doubts and fears. I question myself, I loose faith and I get discouraged. But, being in events such as the one I just came from put me back in the game. Hearing people who went through real hell and overcame stuff against all odds is really inspiring. They showed me that I am on the right path regardless of what's going on now.

It has a lot to do with my environment. I have to hang around with positive people a lot more. They shape my thinking, they challenge me, they push me to grow, and above all, they inspire me to keep going, to keep believing.

I have a question for you. How is your environment? Do you feel inspired whenever you leave people you have been talking with? If not, maybe it would be wise to mix up a little bit with people who will inspire you and challenge you to grow. That was my experience today.

Moral of the story? Do you want to be inspired? Just get invited to speak, and you will write your blog on Tuesday.

Always a pleasure.

Patrick
The Journeyman.

My Journey to a Press Conference

What a game 7 for the Raptors!! Kahwi shot was out of this world. I am still in shock.
But, let me talk about a game that happened a while back. Game 5.
As game 5 against the Philadelphia 76ers and our beloved Raptors ended with a huge victory from the local team, we headed down to the press conference location. The media people were lining up in front of the elevator and the length of the line was one of those I had never seen. We had to wait for the elevator to go down and back up at least three times before we could get in.
By the time we finally got in the elevator, the TV monitor inside the elevator was showing Serge Ibaka’ s press conference. Shoot, we were running late.
We finally got down, and as we were rushing to the conference room, I bumped into Toronto FC soccer superstar Jozy Altidore. He said hi to me and I said hi back. It was surreal. Then, in front of me, I saw this huge guy with tattoos all over his body. I didn’t know who he was, but he caught my attention. As it turn…

My Journey with Fidèle

It has been quite a few busy weeks that involved a round trip to Ottawa on Saturday and preaching during a Sunday church service (yes, I was surprised too when I was asked to do it). All this time I was thinking about what I would be writing about on this week’s blog. I had a vague idea, but I did not know how to formulate it.
That was until I received a message on Facebook from a friend asking me to speak at an upcoming event in January. The topic of my presentation would be “The Moment that Defined Your Life”. The person who sent me the invitation did not know that I had been thinking about the same topic days prior to her message.
It all started when I was at a Toronto Raptors game. I have been reporting on the games for almost two months now, but I am still in awe every time I am at the arena. I can’t believe this is happening to me. I have been in rooms with childhood idols, biggest stars of the game, coaches, reporters, you name it. And every time I am saying “wow”. The other day,…

My Journey with a man of faith

Many years ago, I heard a businessman say that if you don’t have a dream, be around dreamers. Now, I am going to add to his statement and say that if you don’t have faith, be around people of faith.
I met this gentleman over sixteen years ago when I first came to Canada. After a few months, we became roommates. It was very fun evenings among friends hearing and telling funny jokes. We didn’t know what we would become later, but I knew this guy was going somewhere. He was a devoted Christian man, playing music in two different churches. He had a picture in his room with a huge crowd on it and I knew he was meant to impact people’s lives. Little did I know I would be, many years later among the people who would be impacted by his life.
We went our separate ways but kept in touch. He later became a Pastor (and I was not surprised at all by that), and I attended his church a few times.
In 2013, I was going through one of the toughest moments of my life and I needed help. I didn’t know wh…
