My Journey to Another trip to New York

Here I am again in New York. I just started another series of four trips in seven months in the Big Apple. If things go as planned, I will add another trip to San Diego in February, a trip that will come handy as it will be freezing in Toronto (I would make an excellent weatherman).

We got to New York early today, and boy is this city alive! The traffic is crazy and people are everywhere. Our room will only be available at noon and my fellow travelers are going for breakfast. I decide not to go so I can write this blog. You blog readers are so important to me that I can afford to skip breakfast (you don’t see me, I am writing so fast so I can join them before I die of hunger lol)

This trip comes at the right time for me. I needed an escape. Although I know it will be a busy week-end, at least I know I will be focused on one thing. The last few weeks felt as though I was part of “Cirque du Soleil”, overwhelming but fun week indeed. I made sure to keep my commitment about being in shape (twice a week in the gym and basketball on Tuesdays).

I thought I was doing good regarding my “back in shape” program until I met a great friend of mine in the subway yesterday. He gave me a 15 minute lesson on nutrition. I am far from being a healthy eater and my friend’s lecture made me feel like a loser. When it comes to eating I am always open to opportunities. A few times ago, pizza deliverers were my best friends (I think I know all of them by names lol). I know all the Chinese restaurants in my area (and they deliver too lol). I know it takes a commitment to get back in shape but I am up to the challenge. I am afraid my pizza friends will feel like I left them hanging, but they have to look for other customers.

What was funny about my conversation with my friend is we never talked about nutrition before. We grew up together, we went to the same high school, we were on the same basketball team, then we met again here in Toronto. Every time we meet, our conversations are always reminiscent of the great memories we share. Why was this time different? I didn’t even know he was an “expert” in nutrition.

Then I remember reading somewhere “when the student is ready, the teacher will show up”. I bet I wouldn’t have met him, had I not made a commitment to get back in shape. He was there to bring me up to speed and I understand now that exercising without proper nutrition is almost a waste of time.

Think about your own journey when you met the right person at the right time? People who were there just for a purpose. I am sure there are plenty of them. Were they there just by coincidence or have you “created them? I may be wrong, but I think there is a Big Guy upstairs who is waiting for us to make a decision so He can put those kinds of people on our path. My daily prayer is to be one of those people that He is sending each and every day so that YOU can achieve your goals.

Do you want to hear a secret? When I started to write this blog, I had no idea what I was going to write about. Words and ideas started pouring as I was writing. Isn’t that cool? I think I did OK, don’t you think?

Moral of the story? Do you want to meet the right people at the right time? Start ordering pizza and they will show up.

Always a pleasure

My Journey to a Press Conference

What a game 7 for the Raptors!! Kahwi shot was out of this world. I am still in shock. But, let me talk about a game that happened a while back. Game 5. As game 5 against the Philadelphia 76ers and our beloved Raptors ended with a huge victory from the local team, we headed down to the press conference location. The media people were lining up in front of the elevator and the length of the line was one of those I had never seen. We had to wait for the elevator to go down and back up at least three times before we could get in. By the time we finally got in the elevator, the TV monitor inside the elevator was showing Serge Ibaka’ s press conference. Shoot, we were running late. We finally got down, and as we were rushing to the conference room, I bumped into Toronto FC soccer superstar Jozy Altidore. He said hi to me and I said hi back. It was surreal. Then, in front of me, I saw this huge guy with tattoos all over his body. I didn’t know who he was, but he caught my

My Journey with Fidèle

It has been quite a few busy weeks that involved a round trip to Ottawa on Saturday and preaching during a Sunday church service (yes, I was surprised too when I was asked to do it). All this time I was thinking about what I would be writing about on this week’s blog. I had a vague idea, but I did not know how to formulate it. That was until I received a message on Facebook from a friend asking me to speak at an upcoming event in January. The topic of my presentation would be “The Moment that Defined Your Life”. The person who sent me the invitation did not know that I had been thinking about the same topic days prior to her message. It all started when I was at a Toronto Raptors game. I have been reporting on the games for almost two months now, but I am still in awe every time I am at the arena. I can’t believe this is happening to me. I have been in rooms with childhood idols, biggest stars of the game, coaches, reporters, you name it. And every time I am saying “wow”. Th

My Journey to my wedding

Where do I start? I don't really know. As I am waiting for my flight at Kigali airport, with tears in my eyes, I am thinking about the last few days. There are no words that can explain what I have experienced in this month of December 2010. As Phil Collins said, it's another day in paradise. The person who said that words are powerful was so right. It took a few words from my then girlfriend, now wife (are you kidding me!!!!), to start a series of events that led me to this moment. She just said: “Honey, this long distance thing is killing me”. Having been in a couple of long distance relationships, I knew what she meant. This time, it was different. I had to do something, otherwise, this relationship would end up like the other ones. I had promised myself to do whatever it took to make this one work. As I hung up the phone, I thought I had to move mountains. I had to find a way to meet her. Originally, my intention was to visit her in July 2011, however, this felt like a ce
